Young Squad makes history with Cup win

Oxfordshire FA’s young representative squad made history on Sunday when they beat Cheshire FA in the FA County Youth cup to secure an appearance in th

Victory against the 2015 champions came following an impressive team display which saw Oxfordshire FA score three goals and keep a clean sheet.

The first half saw Oxfordshire FA pile on the pressure with a high-tempo passing game and force the Cheshire FA goalkeeper into making a number of smart saves to keep his team in the match after going down 0-1 in the first 10 minutes.

Despite their hard work, Oxfordshire FA failed to capitalise on further opportunities before the break and went in at half-time in the lead with the score at 0-1.

The second half opened with Oxfordshire FA firmly in control and they added a second goal in the 57th minute, before Cheshire FA had a player sent off on the hour after receiving a second yellow card.

Down to 10 men, Cheshire FA did well to stop the mounting pressure from Oxfordshire FA, with their goalkeeper again proving difficult to beat.  Eventually, after some patient play, Oxfordshire FA was able to break the defence and add a third goal in the 82nd minute, from there, seeing out the game comfortable to secure their place in the Semi-Finals.

This was an excellent team performance and the squad now await the visit of Middlesex FA in the Semi Final.

The Semi-Final will take place on Sunday 26th February 2017 at Thame Utd FC with a 2.00pm Kick-Off.
