Over 50's Football sets the Pace

Six teams get involved in our first Over 50’s football festival.

Following on from the recent success of the Over 50’s Football League in Oxfordshire, a six-a-side competition took place on Sunday 22nd June to help increase the awareness of playing opportunities for men aged 50+.

The festival attracted teams from Oxfordshire and beyond with many wanting to continue the event on an annual basis.

Sarah Wood, Football Development Officer from Oxfordshire FA said “The event went really well and it was great to see the amount of people who want to get involved in football in their fifties.  If the demand is there, we’ll try our best to meet peoples’ needs and run similar events throughout the year”.

Games were played on a round robin basis with each match lasting 10 minutes.  Feedback from the players was excellent with one commenting “Well organised, evenly matched sides, great pitches and good refereeing”.  The event took place on the new third generation ATP at Carterton Community College with The Old G’s finishing overall winners.
