Match Preview - Patrick O'Flanagan Veterans Cup Final
One of the most exciting points of the grassroots football calendar gets underway on Tuesday 19 March, as the first Oxfordshire FA County Cup final takes place to get our County Cup season up and running.
The first County Cup up for grabs this year is the Patrick O’Flanagan Memorial Veterans Cup, which takes place at Thame United’s ASM Stadium on Tuesday 19 March, kicking off at 7.45pm.
Clanfield 85 Veterans will take on the defending champions Thame United Veterans in this year’s final, with Thame United looking to claim their sixth Veterans Cup crown having already won the trophy on five previous occasions; the most of any club in the competition’s 15-year history.
Clanfield 85, who have yet to lift the cup, commenced their Veterans Cup campaign with an impressive 9-0 home win over Longford Park Veterans, before edging past Bicester Town Veterans 2-1 in the quarter-finals. The side clinched their place in this year’s final courtesy of a 3-1 away win over Wroxton Sports Veterans in early March.
Thame United started the defence of the Veterans Cup with a 9-0 win themselves, against Bicester Athletic Veterans. A 4-1 home win over Chesterton Veterans paved the way to the semi-finals, where a 3-1 victory at home to Crowmarsh FC Veterans was enough to seal passage to the final with Clanfield.
With both teams scoring plenty of goals en route to the final, the 2023/24 Veterans Cup Final promises to be an entertaining clash.
Make sure you’re there to witness our first County Cup final of the season.
Tickets are priced at £5 or adults and £1 for children/concessions, and are available on the gate.
