Free Courses on Offer from Active Oxfordshire
Our Community Partners, Active Oxfordshire, are offering a host of free courses to the county’s public in December, January and February; focusing on a range of topics.
All of the courses are perfectly suited to coaches and volunteers within the grassroots football community – and places are available to register now.

Introduction to Abuse Awareness (Online Workshop)
Date: 27 November 2023
Time: 6pm
Where: Online
Active Oxfordshire is committed to ensuring they are doing all they can to support local sports clubs to create a safe and secure environment for all.
Through this training you'll be introduced to key principles around building a positive culture. Understanding how we can prevent violence, understand the issues, how you can respond what you can do to safeguard against issues. We'll discuss the barriers to creating safe cultures, the impact of misogyny and creating a strategy to tackle the issue.

Access Sport Disability Inclusion Training
Date: 11 December 2023
Time: 6.30-9pm
Where: Stratfield Brake Sports Ground, Kidlington (OX5 1UP)
This disability inclusion training consists of disability awareness and theory, followed by practical applications, with tips and ideas to delivering fun and inclusive activities. Topics included are:
- Current disability sport landscape
- The need
- Medical v Social Model of Disability
- Different impairment groups
- The Inclusion Spectrum
- STEP
- Your inclusive activities

Introduction to Makaton Training
Date: 17 January 2024 (ONLINE) and 18 January 2024 (IN-PERSON)
Time: 10am-12.30pm (17 Jan) and 6.30-9pm (18 Jan)
Where: Online (17 Jan) and TBC (18 Jan)
This training will cover sport-specific sign language and basic communication, which will help upskill coaches who work with participants that communicate through sign, experience hearing loss, are neurodiverse, or have a learning disability.

Neurodiversity Training (ONLINE)

This online training workshop will unpack what neurodiversity means and provide guidance on how you can better support neurodivergent young people in your club’s sessions.
