Former EFL referee presents to Youth Leadership Team event

Former Football League referee Antony Coggins led youth referees in a development workshop ahead of the new season.

Referees aged 14-21 from across Oxfordshire attended an Oxfordshire FA Youth Leadership Team event yesterday (Monday 14th August) to help support their development ahead of the 2023/24 season.

It was a fantastic experience for our young match officials, especially to have former EFL Antony Coggins on hand to deliver a practical session and take part in a Q&A session on his journey from grassroots football in Oxfordshire to refereeing in the Football League.

Our Referee Development Lead Nigel Saverton was also in attendance and spoke to referees on the pathway about the support on offer, as well as details of a pilot with Oxfordshire Youth Football League on reporting poor discipline via a phone app.

Michael Thurlow, Football Development Manager, said “We were delighted to have Antony support the event and the youth referees that attended left motivated and inspired ahead of the coming season.”
