Diversity Football League - Heskey

Oxfordshire's Diversity Football League Scoops National Award

Former England striker Emile Heskey announces Oxfordshire league as winners of national accolade.

Oxfordshire’s very own Diversity Football League has been named The FA’s national Grassroots Project of the Year.

Named as one of The FA’s national recipients of the 2020 FA and McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards, Diversity Football League was revealed as the winner of the prestigious accolade by none other than former England and Liverpool striker, and McDonald’s ambassador, Emile Heskey.

Former Three Lions striker Heskey personally visited those involved in the league to congratulate them on their achievement.

“To get all these people down to play a game, in a structure that they have, is wonderful,” said Heskey.

“I’m sure they said 25 or 26 different nationalities, but the language is football.”

“Diversity Football League are real grassroots heroes, making a huge difference to many people’s lives across East Oxford through the power of football,” added Oxfordshire FA’s Michael Thurlow.

On behalf of everybody at Oxfordshire FA, congratulations to everybody involved in Diversity Football League – and thank you for all you do for the grassroots community.
