Walking Football is an inclusive, sociable fun version of 5 a-side football usually aimed at the over 50’s.

The game is designed to help people keep an active lifestyle despite their age, as well as getting those back playing football who had to stop due to injuries. As the name suggests, Walking Football is a minimal contact sport that does not allow anyone to sprint, run or jog while the ball is in play.

Key Facts:

• The game is played on a pitch 20/40 yards in length and 15/30 yards in width
• A size 4 Futsal (low bounce) football is used
• No running, jogging or sprinting is permitted whilst the ball is in play
• Games are re-started by a kick-in, roll-in or throw-in
• Physiological benefits include; building strength, improving muscle, core stability, balance and weight loss

Staying active is important at any age, but especially so for older adults as regular exercise can help to prevent some medical conditions and help to reduce the risk of suffering a stroke. The sessions are a great way for older people to keep fit and gain confidence, whether they are still active or returning to exercise, whilst socialising with other local people.

As part of our expanding offer of recreational opportunities we are working with a number of partners to provide indoor turn up and play sessions for the over 50’s across the county. Sessions are open to both individual players as well as teams of any ability with no pre-booking required.

Each session involves a brief warm-up and training session where players can get used to the rules before getting into practice games. Plenty of breaks for stretching and water occur and a full medical screening process is advised.
