John Fathers Junior Shield
About the Shield
The John Fathers Junior Shield is a knockout club cup competition open to all first teams playing in the Oxfordshire Senior League Division Three, Witney & District FA, Banbury District & Lord Jersey FA or equivalent junior leagues as approved by Oxfordshire FA.
History of the Shield
The competition is named after John Fathers, from Long Hanborough, who was a former referee appointments secretary and FA Council Representative for Oxfordshire.
The Shield was first contested in the 1885/86 with Cowley emerging victorious. Kingham All Blacks hold the record for the most wins with seven gained between 1935 and 2002.
Graven Hill are the current holders of the Junior Shield title won for the first time in only their third season as a club. They defeated a strong Hailey side 4-2 who themselves were in their second Shield final in two seasons after winning the competition the previous year.
