The weekly 5-a-side league is aimed at the more recreational and social player who wants to play football in a fun and relaxed environment. An extremely affordable opportunity, the league is a perfect introductory level for women who are trying football for the first time, want to develop basic skills, or improve fitness levels. The league is open to teams as well as individual players who want to join a team. No previous playing experience is necessary.
The new spring format follows the success of our autumn league where eight teams started a 14 week fixture programme back in September. The Jackdaws are a great example of the type of team we’d like to target for the Spring League; a group of friends who were inspired by the success of England's Lionesses in their World Cup Campaign who decided to start weekly training sessions.
“We started our general football training sessions for the exercise and a social aspect" said one of the team. "Then some of us where curious as to what it would be like to play football against other female teams so we played in a tournament in Oxford" she added, "We really enjoyed the competitive element and so decided to give the league a go. It’s a great confidence boost and fantastic to see we're all improving each week too."
The league is open to teams and players regardless of football background and ability. There is no limit on the number of players you can register in a team and we will provide bibs and footballs. The league is coordinated by Oxfordshire FA staff and officiated by friendly referees.
