With the aim of having a set philosophy from Under 15s England team to the Senior team, there is a great impact on getting the fundamentals right at grassroots. CPD events and coaching workshops will now feature elements of the DNA at all times.
The DNA is split into 5 strands, with aims for both elite, and grassroots football:
“Who We Are”
Elite: about instilling pride in representing England and understanding the heritage of the Three Lions past and present
Grassroots: getting clubs to look and themselves and ask, “what do we stand for?”. Can club develop a philosophy which is bought into throughout the club?
“How We Play”
Elite: focuses on the playing style and philosophy, aimed at building possession domination, but also looking at teams without the ball and the transition between.
Grassroots: Similar to the elite aim, it looks at creating players who are comfortable on the ball, and know how to set up to win it back if they lose it.
“The Future England Player”
Elite: Developing players with outstanding technical and tactical abilities as well as physical attributes and psychological and social characteristics.
Grassroots: how can you use the four corner model to get the most out of your players?
“How We Coach”
Elite: A consistent approach to coaching across all the England teams and that training sessions are well-planned, delivered and reviewed.
Grassroots: Using varied coaching styles to meet the needs of your players, and an aim for a minimum of 70% ball rolling time in all sessions.
“How We Support”
Elite: How players are support and assisted by analysis, sports medicine, psychology and nutrition.
Grassroots: How FA Education can support grassroots coaches and clubs via the FA Coach Mentoring Scheme, coach education courses, FA Licensed Coaches Club workshops, and more.
All of these DNA strands will be delivered in different workshops throughout the season, all of which will gain FA Licensed Coaches Club CPD hours for members. If you would like to book on to these free events, please visit our online bookings page.
