Launch of new Oxfordshire Walking Football League is a success

On Sunday 15th May, 14 teams participated in the newly formed Oxfordshire Walking Football League across 50+ and 60+ divisions.

Last weekend at Whitelands Farm Sports Ground, 14 teams competed against each other in a newly formed Oxfordshire Walking Football League. There are two divisions for those 50+ and 60+ years of age.

The teams that took part in this included Oxford United Walking Football Club, Rotherfield United, Charlbury Town Walking Football Club, Cherwell Strollers, Bicester Fossils, Oxford Rovers Walking Football Club, Chalgrove Cavaliers and Banbury Matureitans.

This league has been developed with a collaborative effort by Oxfordshire FA, Oxfordshire Over 50s League and the clubs involved. The intention behind this is to help shape how the league is operated. The league is scheduled to run across four dates throughout May, June, July and August.

We’re delighted to share the first event was a huge success, with over 100 players participating across the day.

Michael Thurlow, our Football Development Manager, said, “I’m delighted the league has started in Oxfordshire as it will provide opportunities for walking footballers across the county, which also enhances the inclusion the game has to offer.”

Nick Brown, the League Secretary, said, “I can’t express how proud I am to extend the pathways for Over 50s traditional 11v11 football to walking football. This provides many opportunities for people aged 50+ in Oxfordshire.
