Calling all Oxfordshire Groundspeople

Oxfordshire FA have teamed up with the Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) to deliver the IOG Level 1 Winter Pitches Course to support club volunteers to develop the skills involved in preparing and maintaining football pitches.

Hosted by Chinnor FC on 27th April, the course is ideal for club volunteers, newly employed groundsmen or just as a refresher to develop their knowledge with the latest best practices and exploration of the requirements needed to optimise their playing surfaces.

The course will be delivered by our Regional IOG Pitch Advisor, Darren Symmonds and will involve an educational hands-on training day, featuring a productive presentation, plus turf care theory and practical working demonstrations.

Topics covered in the course include:

- Definition and assessment of surface
- Sequence of annual maintenance
- Mowing, verticutting, scarification and harrowing
- Fertiliser application and top dressing
- Line marking
- Turf problems: weeds, pests and diseases

Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion and lunch and refreshments are included in the course fee.
