“Mentoring is about offering confidence and guidance”
The Oxfordshire FA is committed to ensuring that newly qualified referees are given the support that they vitally need. The first year of a Referee’s career is very important, and it is our responsibility to ensure that they are provided with the necessary support and guidance that they require. For some referees, little support may be needed, but for others, there are times when reassurance is key.
What is the Referee Mentor Scheme about?
The Scheme will offer stability and long-term support to referees going through their first five games as part of their Basic Referees Course and the transition of completing the course to embarking on their new challenge.
This Scheme is designed for Referees who are looking to progress in the game, or, indeed a referee who would like support in their first full year of qualifying. In addition, referees need to assign themselves to a league, to be eligible for the Scheme.
It will primarily be the responsibility of the Mentor Co-ordinator to connect the Mentor to make contact with the Mentee (Referee), and to facilitate the building of a positive relationship. Mentors will be expected to watch at least two of their Mentee’s first games, however, it is expected that Mentors will communicate after each of their Mentee matches via phone.
Providing a referee with their very own Mentor helps the Oxfordshire FA in providing new and fresh opportunities to any Referee who wishes to progress, and reach the next level. Importantly, the mentor is there to guide newly qualified referees, and provide them with opportunities to reflect upon their own performances.
If you are interested in being a Mentor or finding out more then please email info@OxfordshireFA.com Training will be provided and a remuneration per game will be available.
