The course was fully funded through Tesco and the National Sports Foundation, both partners supporting women and girl’s football. In exchange for coaching hours, the course fee is refundable.
Throughout the course, candidates kept high spirits, creating a positive, fun atmosphere for everyone involved, especially when a nail or two got broken!! During a day of practical involvement, it was great to see the girl’s being supportive and encouraging each other through their sessions.
One of the newly qualified coaches, Sue Douglas has recently taken on the role as manager with AFC Henley’s new U14 girl’s team. When asking for feedback on the course she replied;
"I found the course really good, appropriate for what I needed to know, it made me feel more positive and boosted my confidence to go out and deliver to the girl’s. With the course being all females, it didn’t matter if some of us had little experience, we just got involved, there was a good mix of people, they were all lovely. I highly recommend this course to anyone, even if you do not have much of a playing background, It has truly inspired me"
Some of the ladies already have connections with adult women’s teams and junior teams and will work alongside the coaches to gain further experience. Another candidate, Kate De Ban commented on the course and said "it was an important opportunity for women". Kate will now be assisting at her club Mansfield Road women’s.
Women and Girl's Football Development Officer, Vicky Bonham praised the group and said "These courses are a fantastic opportunity for women to learn in a sound environment and gain confidence in a sport that they are passionate about. Well done to all the candidates for your hard work and commitment".
