New FA Youth Award Course gets underway

12:15 GMT, Monday, 23 June 08. Courses

Saturday 21st June 2008 saw the Oxfordshire FA begin its first FA Youth Award Course at The Oxford Community School. The course is part of the new age appropriate awards being offered by The Football Association as part of its commitment to the principles of Long Term Player Development.

The course is specifically aimed those coaches who work with the 5 - 11 year old player and focuses as much upon the development of the child as it does upon football.

Twenty candidates from all over Oxfordshire are taking part in Module 1 of the course - Developing the Environment. All candidates are looking to develop further their understanding of how young children grow and develop, how they think and learn, and how the right training / playing environment can positively affect a players development.

Gareth Jennings, County Development Manager for Oxfordshire FA, stated "The Award aims to provide coaches with a coaching process that meets the needs of all young developing players.  With this in mind, much of the course focuses upon the how and why of coaching rather than just the what".

The FA Youth Award Course is a new addition to an already comprehensive Coach Education Programme offered by the Oxfordshire FA. For information on the Coach Education Programme please click here.
