There are 2 sections: On Field Questions and Off Field Questions, and referees can email their questions to referees@oxfordshirefa.com (please put “question” in the subject title). Questions and answers will then be published here. The names of players, clubs and referees which appear in questions may be removed so as not to cause offence and some questions may be edited to ensure clarity on the web. All submissions will be controlled by the webmaster whose decision to publish, or not, will be final.
The latest questions will be shown on this page with previous questions viewable via the links on the right of this page.
So go on ask that refereeing question that you, and probably many others, have always wanted to ask by clicking here.

Off Field:
Q: How do I close dates with the County FA?
A: Dates can be closed by emailing info@oxfordshirefa.com or ringing the OFA office on 01993 894404 during office hours.
Remember this only closes dates for County appointments and you must also inform your league separately. Conversely closing dates with your league does not close the date with the County FA so always remember to do both.
Additionally once a date is closed for county appointments you should not undertake any other officiating duties on that date, unless you have previously accepted an FA appointment.
On Field:
Q: A goalkeeper is lying injured on the ground when a goal is scored in a game where club assistant referees were used. You as the referee did not see the incident that lead to the goalkeeper being injured or notice him until after the goal is scored. Should I disallow the goal?
(Submitted 13/01/09)
A: No, the goal should stand as you did not see the incident and you cannot act on what might have happened. If you have neutral assistant referees you may ask them if they saw anything and act accordingly, but this does not apply to club assistant referees.
Q: Having overruled the club assistant on 3 occasions (acknowledging him on each occasion) and during a stoppage in play he throws the flag on the floor and swears at me what should I do?
(Submitted 11/01/10)
A: During the stoppage in play go over and speak with the assistant. Thank them for their help and inform them that due to their actions their services are no longer required, also inform them that you will be reporting the incident to the appropriate authority.
You may not wish to aggravate the situation by telling them you are reporting them at this point however. before you leave the ground you should inform a club official that you will be reporting their club assistant.
Try to obtain the services of another assistant and resume play.
Don’t forget to submit the report to the appropriate authority as soon as possible after the game but certainly within 2 working days.
