The Observer Corps was a vital part of Army life during the WWII and the RTT have decided to introduce its own version of this great organisation.
As referees we often find ourselves with the odd free Saturday or Sunday due to injury or postponements however now there is something productive you can now do with this spare time.
As you may be aware the number of new referees we are training is steadily on the up and the feedback from our new colleagues indicates that the hardest part of the training is those first few games, not so much the on field issues but more around pre-match procedures such as where do I get the match ball, who fills out the match record card or how many substitutes are allowed in this game, everyday questions for regular referees however they can be quite daunting for the new referee.
This where the observer steps in to help the new referee, of course he will also keep an eye on the field action and be on hand at the end of the game to offer moral support and hence leave the new referee with a positive feeling from the game.
As an observer a game would be found local to where you live, and once the game is finished that is where the observer’s responsibility to the referee finishes, unless they wish to become a mentor to the referee but there is no pressure to do this. Hence is the observer is free another weekend they will get to support another new referee.
If you would like to take part in the scheme and be a vital support for our new referees (remember you were one once!) then please register your interest by clicking here.
REMBER NEW REFEREES NEED YOU!
