The minimum age to attend a Level 1 is 16 and over.
How long is the course?
The course will run for 30 hours in total, and will include Safeguarding Children workshop and Emergency Aid workshop. Courses usually run over 3 weeks or 2 weeks depending on the format.
If I have already attended a Safeguarding Children Workshop am I required to complete this part of the course?
Candidates who have completed The FA Safeguarding Children Workshop within the last 3 years will not be required to fulfil this element of the course. Candidates can produce their certificate at the start of the course and the tutor will sign off this section.
Due to The FA Safeguarding Children Course’s football specific nature only candidates with a valid FA Safeguarding Children Certificate will be exempt from this course element.
Holders of any other child protection or safeguarding qualification will not qualify for exemption and will therefore be required to attend this element.
If I have already attended an Emergency Aid course am I required to complete this part of the course?
There are two categories of exemption from this element of the course either:
1, Candidates who have completed The FA Emergency Aid Certificate with a minimum of six months validity remaining before expiration.
or
2, Candidates who have completed a course run by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved organisations with a minimum of six months validity remaining before expiration. The HSE registration number must be on the certificate, or provided to the OFA or course Tutor. Awards undertaken with St John and the British Red Cross are also valid as they are HSE approved organisations.
Holders of any other first aid qualification will not qualify for exemption and will therefore have to complete this element.
If I cannot attend the first day of the course, can I still continue?
If you cannot attend the first day you will not be able to continue with the course as you will miss registration of your qualification and essential course content.

FA Level 2
Can I attend a FA Level 2 if I have not completed a FA Level 1
Yes you can go straight to a FA Level 2, but Oxfordshire FA would not advise this as the FA Level 1 gives candidates the foundations of coaching and the theory side of each course, as some may not have been in a classroom environment for many years and FA Level 1 will give you a insight to what is expected of you on an FA Level 2.
If you are unsure please contact us and we will be happy to talk it through with you, please email lisa.brooks@oxfordshirefa.com or call 01993 894403
How many hours does the course run?
75 hours in total including home tasks - all days are to be attended.
What are the course pre requisites?
You will need a valid FA Emergency Aid, St Johns or Red Cross First Aid qualification and FA Safeguarding Children Certificate. Candidates without these qualifications can arrange to take them when booking their Level 2.

The FA Youth Awards
What are The FA Youth Awards?
The FA Youth Awards are a series of groundbreaking courses for coaches working in youth football. These courses help coaches to understand their players as much as they understand the game. This is achieved by looking at:
What motivates young people to play football
How to build their self esteem
Managing differences in age, experience, ability and attitude
Creating the right environment for young people to learn
Strategies for managing mistakes
Tailoring practice sessions according to age, ability, experience and maturity
The awards are split into an introductory module and then three further progressive modules:
The Introductory Module
Module One – Developing the Environment
Module Two – Developing the Practice
Module Three – Developing the Player
Who are they for?
The FA Youth Awards are mainly for football coaches who work with younger players. It will also benefit anyone who works with young people – teachers, parents, referees, sports psychologists etc as many of the issues are generic and apply to all players regardless of their age and ability.
Introductory Module
The FA Introduction to Age Appropriate Coaching is for new coaches as well as coaches and teachers who would like to learn more about this area. Successful completion can serve as an entry point to the FA Level 1. Coaches with a Level One certificate in Coaching Football can go straight to Module One without taking this course.
Module One
The FA Youth Award Module 1 is for all coaches with a Level One Certificate in Coaching Football – elite coaches, grassroots coaches, PE teachers and parents have all found this module beneficial.
Module Two
The FA Youth Award Module 2 course focuses on developing practice sessions which are appropriate for young players of different ages, abilities and with different experience levels. This is more suited to coaches who want to develop their knowledge further. Centre of Excellence / Academy coaches as well as committed grassroots coaches have found this further area of study useful. Candidates will need to have completed Module One before they can enrol.
Module Three
Will be launched next year and we can contact you with more information about this when the course is launched. Candidates will need to have completed Module Two to enrol.
Will it benefit me if I coach children aged 5 and above?
The content on all modules is relevant for coaches working with young players of age 5 and above. Some content can also be applied to adult football.
What is involved?
The Introductory module is a one day course. Modules One, Two and Three last 4 days (32 hours)
All modules are made up of both classroom theory sessions and practical pitch sessions.
The Module One is non-assessed and the Module Two includes a formative assessment (you will prepare and deliver a practical session and feedback will be given – it is not pass or fail). However, Module Three includes a summative assessment (you can be deemed competent or not yet competent and invited for reassessment)

I’ve just done Module One, when should I do Module Two?
We’d recommend waiting 6 months in between each module. This will give you chance to put what you have learnt from the previous module into practice – and get used to the techniques suggested.
How is it different the Level 1,2,3 Certificate in Coaching courses?
The FA Youth Award asks the coach to consider how successful they are in meeting the needs of the developing young player. This theory is then converted into practical sessions that demonstrate how the coach might structure practice to maximum effect. The FA Youth Awards are directed at Age specific coaching, the FA Level 2 & FA Level 3 coaching courses are designed more for the Academic level of coaching.
